In an effort to help those impacted by COVID-19, I’m contributing tips to a featured bartender each week for every neat pour or cocktail I post on social media. It’s not an original idea; it’s simply my Turkey spin on it.

This week I’m adopting 10-year bartending veteran Jacki Schromm, who you’ll find slinging drinks at Bayou & Bottle in Houston, Texas. Jacki’s love for Wild Turkey was reinforced two years ago, when she attended her first Camp Runamok in Kentucky. She recalls her favorite memory – sitting in Tyrone’s legendary rickhouse A, listening to Master Distiller Jimmy Russell recite his world-famous Mint Julep recipe:

Isn’t Jimmy a treasure? 🙂

While #StayingHome, Jacki’s keeping busy making home bartending videos, baking, playing lots of Bananagrams, and enjoying her favorite cocktail, the Lion’s Tail (recipe courtesy of PUNCH):

  • 2 oz Russell’s Reserve 10 Year Old Bourbon
  • 1/2 oz lime juice
  • 1/2 oz allspice dram
  • 1 tsp simple syrup
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters

Combine all ingredients in a mixing tin and shake with ice; strain into a chilled coupe or cocktail glass.

I invite you to join me in adopting Jacki this week. All it takes to tip is a simple contribution to the following PayPal Pool (public and anonymous options available):

This pool has ended, but you can still help Jacki out via Venmo: @jackischromm

Remember – every penny counts. No amount is too little and will go a long way in helping Jacki in this time of uncertainty. Also, it’s important that I mention that 100% of your donation will be forwarded directly to Jacki at week’s end. No reductions. No gimmicks. You have my promise.

Thanks for your consideration. Together, through compassion and unity, we will overcome these hard times. We’ll prevail as we always do and be all the better for it.

Cheers and thank you all!

David J.
